Colonialism does not end when flags change. It can continue through the ideas people inherit about faith, language, education, history, identity, culture and worth.
The Colonization of the Mind: Breaking the Invisible Chains of Thought asks where those ideas came from, who taught them to us, and whether they still serve us. It makes room for honest questions without treating questioning as a failure of loyalty.
This is not an attack on personal faith or religion. It is an invitation to examine how authority and fear can shape belief, so that what we hold sacred can be approached with greater awareness and conscious choice.
“What beliefs have we inherited, and who taught us to accept them as truth?”
The book invites readers to slow down, look again and choose consciously what they will believe, honor and pass on. The aim is not to replace one set of instructions with another, but to recover the authority to think with care.
How religious authority, fear and inherited doctrine shape the imagination.
How language hierarchies become judgments about intelligence, respectability and worth.
Whether schools train free thought or reproduce inherited systems of obedience.
Who is remembered, who is erased and how communities reclaim their histories.
How images, narratives and digital systems influence what people believe is possible.
How colonial systems imposed identities and roles, and what liberation requires.
How economic and food systems shape bodily autonomy, culture and sovereignty.
How people unlearn inherited inferiority and reclaim self-definition.
One book, prepared in four languages. Each edition carries the same argument in the language of its readers.

The Colonization of the Mind: Breaking the Invisible Chains of Thought begins with personal examination, but it does not stop at individual mindset. What we notice within ourselves is connected to the structures, stories and habits around us.
Mental liberation must therefore connect to education, culture, spirituality, media, governance, land and community. The work is practical: to question what has been normalized, strengthen the relationships that sustain dignity, and make more conscious choices about the worlds we help reproduce.
Yvener Duroseau is a Haitian-born author, cultural commentator, speaker and podcast host whose work explores history, identity, faith, culture and decolonization. He is the author of Alike Regardless: This Is Where It Began (2021).
He hosts Who Taught You That?, long-form conversations with scholars, activists and creatives about language, spirituality, education, identity and mental liberation. Rooted in Haiti's history and connected to broader struggles for freedom and dignity, his work asks readers to look closely at the ideas that shape their lives.
Through writing, conversation and reflection, he invites people to question inherited beliefs, examine the systems that give those beliefs authority, and reclaim the agency to decide what they will believe, honor and pass on.
If you question inherited narratives, begin with the first two chapters of The Colonization of the Mind: Breaking the Invisible Chains of Thought. Read at your own pace, follow the questions where they lead, and make space for a more conscious conversation with what you have been taught.
