A decision that a nursing home should pay € 85,000 in compensation to a senior caregiver for discriminating against them if they retire at age 66 “serves as a major warning to employers” regarding age Discrimination, an employment lawyer said.

Richard Grogan commented after the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) ordered the payout. WRC judge Aideen Collard said the award was “appropriate” in circumstances where the nursing home made no effort to comply with labor equality laws.
